Minimally Invasive Tissue Sampling (MITS)

The purpose of this study is to use minimally invasive tissue sampling to ascertain the cause of deaths in stillborn, infant, neonates, and pregnancy-related deaths instead of post-mortem (autopsy) as is usually the case.

Objectives of the project are to:

  1. Administer MITS in the investigation of the causes of deaths in the following groups;
    a. Stillbirths

    b. Neonatal deaths
    c. Maternal/pregnancy-associated deaths
  2. Administer MITS in the investigation of deaths in children aged 1month – 18years
  3. Explore socio-behavioral factors that are associated with acceptance or refusal of MITS
