Community-Acquired Bacteremic Syndromes in Young Nigerian Children (CABSYNC)โ€‹

The principal goal of CABSYNC is to define the etiologic agents of community-acquired bacteremic syndromes in a malaria-endemic setting and to provide information on host immune responses that could be useful in developing primary and secondary preventative measures. โ€‹

Objectives of the project are to:

  1. Define and characterize the etiologic agents of community-acquired bacteremic syndromes in young Nigerian children.
  2. Determine the role of respiratory viruses in promoting the severity of bacteremic and radiologic pneumonia.
  3. Determine acute host inflammatory response profiles in bacteremic syndromes associated with respiratory distress.ย
