The IFAIN team was pleased to visit the Gates Foundation office in Abuja for a productive engagement focused on opportunities to strengthen collaboration in addressing one of the world’s most pressing public health challenges—antimicrobial resistance.

Our delegation, led by Prof. Stephen Obaro, included Prof. Ehimario Igumbor, Dr. Bernard Ebruke, Nekpen Ogbomo, and Dr. Emmanuel Egbe. We were warmly received by Dr. Laila Umar and joined by William Msemburi for rich discussions on IFAIN’s growing portfolio of work in AMR, health security, surveillance, laboratory strengthening, implementation research, and policy translation.

The meeting provided an opportunity to highlight IFAIN’s technical expertise and implementation experience, as well as our readiness to support Gates Foundation-supported initiatives in Nigeria, including the REACH Network and the SARMAAN Project. We also explored opportunities to leverage IFAIN’s extensive partnerships with government, academia, and development partners to strengthen evidence generation and translate research into policy and public health impact.

We appreciate the warm reception and constructive discussions and look forward to building on this engagement through concrete areas of collaboration that will contribute to stronger health systems and improved health outcomes in Nigeria and across Africa.

At IFAIN, we remain committed to advancing research excellence, strategic partnerships, and locally led solutions that strengthen epidemic preparedness, antimicrobial stewardship, and health security.
