IFAIN was delighted to host Dr. Emmanuel Agogo, an internationally respected physician, global health security expert, for a strategic dialogue on advancing health security in Nigeria through research, innovation, and multisectoral collaboration. Dr. Agogo recently served as Director of Pandemic Threats at FIND, and previously Country Director of Resolve to Save Lives (Nigeria) and Deputy Director of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) and where he played important roles in strengthening disease surveillance, epidemic preparedness, and national health security systems.
Dr. Agogo met with IFAIN’s Founder and Chief Scientific Officer, Prof. Stephen Obaro, Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Ehimario Igumbor, and Head of Research and Programmes, Dr. Bernard Ebruke, to explore opportunities for strategic collaboration at the intersection of research, policy, and implementation.
A major focus of the discussions was his ongoing stud on Inter-Agency Synergy and Health Security in Nigeria, with particular emphasis on the role of the National Authority on the Chemical and Biological Weapons Conventions (NAC&BWC). The proposed study seeks to generate evidence on how collaboration across government institutions can be strengthened to improve national preparedness, prevention, detection, and response to biological, chemical, and other public health threats.
The meeting also explored opportunities to leverage implementation research to inform governance, strengthen coordination mechanisms, and support evidence-based decision-making across Nigeria’s health security ecosystem. As emerging infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, and other complex threats increasingly require whole-of-government and whole-of-society responses, stronger inter-agency collaboration has never been more important.
At IFAIN, we are committed to generating actionable evidence that strengthens health systems, informs policy, and advances national and regional health security. We value partnerships that combine technical excellence with a shared commitment to building resilient systems capable of protecting populations from current and future health threats.
We thank Dr. Agogo for an engaging and insightful exchange and look forward to translating today’s dialogue into meaningful collaboration and lasting impact.
