IFAIN was delighted to learn of the recent visit by Prof. Sa’ad Ahmad, Chief Medical Director of Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jabi, Abuja, to Prof. Stephen Obaro, Founder and Chief Scientific Officer of IFAIN, at his office in Birmingham, Alabama, USA.

In addition to his leadership at IFAIN, Prof. Obaro is the Helen and Robert Whitley Endowed Chair of Pediatrics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and Associate Director of the Mary Heersink Institute for Global Health. Through these roles, he provides academic and scientific leadership in paediatric infectious diseases, global health, and collaborative research, while fostering partnerships that strengthen health systems and research capacity in low- and middle-income countries.

The visit provided an excellent opportunity to reinforce the growing relationship between IFAIN and FMC Jabi and to explore opportunities for deeper collaboration in clinical research, health systems strengthening, specialist training, implementation science, and innovation. With both institutions committed to improving health outcomes in Nigeria, discussions underscored the value of building enduring partnerships that translate scientific evidence into better patient care and stronger public health systems.

At IFAIN, we firmly believe that transformative health impact is achieved through strategic partnerships. We are therefore excited about strengthening our collaboration with Federal Medical Centre, Jabi, leveraging the complementary strengths of our institutions to advance research, build capacity, support innovation, and contribute to a more resilient health system in Nigeria.

We thank Prof. Ahmad for the visit and look forward to translating this growing relationship into impactful collaborative initiatives that benefit Nigeria and the wider African region.
